Local Flavor

Following the "eat local" mandate isn't as easy as we thought.

One of us at tuttifoodie is trying to grow organic corn near her apartment (first attempt = disaster). Marja, our chef, headed north recently to buy grass-fed beef directly from the ranch. And Miss S., one of our writers, is raising two chickens in her backyard (zoning violation).

If only we'd discovered Local Harvest earlier. The site is a modern field guide to eating locally. It can connect you with farmers' markets in your 'hood—whether you're in Baton Rouge or Boulder. It can steer you to CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) coordinates around the country. Why not buy a share in a local farm (and get a box of juicy tomatoes, crisp fennel, and rich, jammy blackberries delivered to your doorstep) this summer?

Or order heirloom seeds and learn how to grow them.

Start your local mojo by clicking on the U.S. map to zoom in on your region.

In seconds, you'll have a directory to locally grown treasures.
